3rd Grade SS

3rd Grade Sunday School – I think I’ve found a “sweet spot” for teaching.  The kids are old enough where I can (slightly) challenge them intellectually yet not so old as to be surly, bored and unresponsive.  I still have to put up with “little kid” behavior occasionally, but the group I have now has been pretty good.  I started in August and have done most of the classes without aid of a curriculum, just me and the Holy Spirit.  After about a month I decided to guide the lessons along the Road to Romans.  We’re coming up to the last stop.

I have an assistant helping me, and I give him an occasional class session to lead.  In February we are supposedly getting a canned curriculum from Discipleland that all of the other teachers will be using.  It seems OK, and I’ll have the freedom to tailor each class session as I see fit.  Our grade  level will be going through the Gospel of Matthew.

Anywhozitz, this area will be a storage area for the outlines I use for each class.  We use the NLT version.  And yes, I’d eventually like to get back to teaching adult classes for Bible study, though it may be a few years.

ROAD THROUGH ROMANS

  1. ROMANS 3:23  For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
  2. ROMANS 6:23  For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
  3. ROMANS 5:8  But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
  4. ROMANS 10:9  If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

After we have traveled this road, I will apply it to the Great Commission, where the verses above can be useful for witnessing and helping others on their own faith walk.  While most accounts of Romans Road utilize these verses, I have found a group that’s a good follow-up/continuation.  They focus on:  Salvation through Jesus Christ brings us into a relationship of peace with God.

  1. ROMANS 5:1  Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.
  2. ROMANS 8:1  So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.
  3. ROMANS 8:38-39 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
